FA Cup result: Beverley Town 2 - 3 Whitley Bay

The Beavers lost their historic FA Cup tie by the narrowest of margins after a monumental effort against a strong Whitley Bay side from the Northern League Division One.

Town suffered an early blow when we were reduced to 10 men after just 10 minutes due to a deliberate handball, with Whitley Bay scoring from the resultant penalty. Playing for 80 minutes with 10 men was always going to be a challenge, but The Beavers were still the better team for large parts of the game.

It seemed like all was lost when Whitley Bay added a second just before the half time whistle, to go into the break 2-0 up, and then add a 3rd just 3 minutes after the restart.

But that's when an incredible Bev Town revival started, with goals from Cameron Connelly after 59 minutes and Luka Suluburic 7 minutes later. The miracle comeback looked well and truly on, and excitement coursed through the big crowd.

But despite a huge effort from the team, they just couldn't find a way to get it back to 3-3. The final whistle came and, although the result wasn't what we all wanted, the team could be incredibly proud of their efforts against higher league opposition.

Next up is the local derby against Barton Town in the league on Saturday.
